TOPIC: LGBT* Tourism: Insights for Safety Professionals
LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) individuals, couples and groups travel everywhere their mainstream counterparts do, from Anchorage, Alaska to Zap, North Dakota and to every spot in between, including Las Vegas. In addition to the concerns all travelers face, gays and lesbians face many more potential challenges, threats and dangers then their heterosexual counterparts whenever they leave home. Paradoxically the current legal gains prevalent in the news over the past several years and especially in the last several months, have in some ways complicated travel for LGBT travelers, particularly for sub-segments including gay or lesbian parents with young children. This presentation covers some of these key topics in the hopes of raising awareness and stimulating discussion.
